Conclusion
50 cent or Lil Wayne lyrics, are entertaining, but you should actually take the time out to actually listen to the vulgar and demeaning things they say, and how they chose to focus on degrading women and use them as sexual objects in their music videos. Rap and Hip Hop have a very strong impact in society because of it's popularity. Something that many people have failed in realizing is the ways the lyrics as well as music videos impact different groups of people. The more we have music like this, the more stereotypes that are going to be created and the less things the younger generation will get out of these people. Hip-hop has changed the faces of women in the community from a more positive image to a more negative one and some women like Beyonce are trying to change those stereotypes and show a more positive representation of women in the music industry.
According to Hip Hop the only good thing about women is the way they look and the way that they dress. These ideas have been shown over and over again in music videos so much that it’s normal and the younger generation see's this as something that they should look up too. This is shown through all the the hip hop music videos I have chosen. The objectification and misogyny brings out the true meaning behind what these artists want to accomplish and their real purpose, which is to make money and attract more viewers. While watching all these music videos another thing that really stood out to men is that for the most part all the women in these videos are black, which shows that race is plays an important factor. In these music videos black women are given a negative roll and are Hip Hop culture's sex object, although all women are, black women in specifically.
On the other hand, women like Beyonce, are consistently challenging these stereotypes and are raising awareness to change these stereotypes affecting women, especially black women. Beyonce is all about women empowerment, and feminism. Her songs focus on family, strength and becoming stronger. I personally love Beyonce because she is one of the few women, who actually empower women in the music industry and give us a positive image.
How can we change this?
Although we wish there could be something that we can do to change these stereotypes of women, the only thing we can do is raise awareness about these types of music videos that are causing problems to our society and little by little are damaging the way that we perceive things. These videos are all very accessible to the younger generation and this is something that parents should be aware of to prevent them from watching it. We can only hope that in the long run, this will change for the better. We should all be aware of the fact that music videos, especially hip hop ones, create stereotypes that for the most part are not positive. Next time you listen to these songs, or other hip hop and rap music videos take the time to actually listen to the non sense they say and the ways women are spoken about. Are younger generation is our future and change begins with you.
