people's view on women in rap music videos
how do women feel?
Many are angry and upset at the fact that they are being portrayed in a derogatory manner. For the most part hip-hop as well as rap consists of mainly African-American artists, and a lot of the women featured in the videos are African-American woman. When people see African-American women dancing and exposing themselves, a lot of people form a general idea about them and believe that all African-American women behave in that manner. This has a lot to do with the stereotypes that society has created and embedded throughout the years. When young African-American girls see these women in videos, they become negatively influenced by what they see, and sadly look up to the types of things they say. While doing my research that mostly all African American women in the hip hop and rap industry expose their bodies to gain viewers. One good example of this is Nicki Minaj, who is known for her curvy body. She is always exposing herself and rarely wearing any clothing in her music videos. She also has several music videos that address to women as "b*tches and sluts. These are the women that need to empower and change these views that society has on women in the music industry, not go along with them. Hip-hop has almost made it okay for people to talk about women with such disgraceful terms. On the other hand, women like Beyonce, who is a feminist tries to raise awareness and empower women. Although she may dress in a certain way, she definitely has positive messages in her songs that uplift women and show that there are women out in the music world that are trying to make a change. It is time the community recognizes what is going on and does something to change the perception of women to a more positive and uplifting image. Although it may be hard I know that if all women come together they will be able to create change once and for all.
