women objectifying themselves
Women in the music industry also misrepresent themselves in their music videos. A good example of this is Rihanna, who in all her videos in very sexualized and objectifying herself to men. One of the reasons I chose to bring up women is because the stereotypes that have been created of women in the music industry are not only because of men. There are many women in the media that decide to sexualize themselves in their music videos to attract viewers and attention from society, whether it's a positive or negative one, they rarely ever care because the more attention, means the more fame and money. Nicki Minaj is also a very good example of women who do this and misrepresent themselves in a very negative manner.
khia - my neck, my backNot only do men talk about women in a sexualized way but women do it as well. In this case, Khia is objectifying herself to men as she is saying that all women want sex and is degrading herself to get attention from men. She is sexualizing herself by the language and tone she says certain things to come on to men. In the video, a guy never “licked her neck, back, pussy, or crack” and all the women in this music video had clothing on; Showing a difference between music videos now and music videos back in the day, where they didn't need women naked to attract people. Music videos today show more nudity and objectification of women. Even though her video didn’t show much nudity, the lyrics were explicit and it implemented the desire that women always want sex.

rihanna - where have you beenRihanna uses her sexuality to attract men in her music video. The explicit imagery including the costumes, nudity, and dancing represents the sexual aspect of women. Rihanna chose to present herself in this form. Men did not force Rihanna to represent herself in this form. One of the reasons I wanted to use this video as an example of women in the media and their representation is because, although men are usually the ones that are degrading and misrepresenting women in music videos, women artist chose to do this to themselves, and misrepresent themselves, which creates the stereotypes of women. The youth looks up to the things that she does, which is affecting our society and from that more stereotypes are created no only about women, but about women of color in our society.

challenging the stereotypes
People's perspectives are rapidly changing more people are learning to accept different points of views, musical artists are challenging gender stereotypes in their music videos. Many artists, like Beyonce are finding ways to present women in non-provocative and correct manners and instead tries to show positive things about women. We are beginning to see women play the roles that men would typically play and represent themselves in positive ways that the youth can look up too. It is interesting because most of the videos that challenge the gender stereotype for women are by women. Videos like this are not very common, especially in popular music videos, but Beyonce is one of the people in the music industry that represent challenging female gender stereotypes. Many women should look up to her because she is definitely a strong, independent feminist with many positive goals.
beyonce - if i were a boy
Beyonce is a very interesting example of challenging gender stereotypes because it experiences with the notion of switching gender roles. Beyonce is represented as a male as her husband prepares breakfast for her, she goes to work as a police officer, and her husband calls her worrying about why she is not yet home. Here we see how the tables are turned and the man is seen doing female things and the female is doing male roles. Beyond the title of the song, this video demonstrates an understanding of the gender roles that our society has created. Beyonce is the perfect example of a woman who is trying to change the stereotypes that have been implemented on women nowadays.
